I am delighted to share that my painting Goodyer Meadows II has been selected for the South Downs Open 2026 at Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery.

The painting forms part of my continuing return to landscape painting and my exploration of the South Downs and the countryside surrounding Petersfield.  Working in oils, I am increasingly interested in responding directly to the landscape through colour, light, atmosphere, and the physical qualities of paint.

The South Downs Open brings together work inspired by, connected with, or created within the South Downs region.  As someone living and working in Petersfield, I am particularly pleased to have a painting selected that depicts a landscape so close to home.

Goodyer Meadows lies on the edge of Petersfield and is somewhere I know well.  The painting is part of my developing body of landscape work exploring the places around me and my relationship with the South Downs landscape.

The exhibition will run at Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery from 10 October 2026 until 13 March 2027, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to see the exhibition over the autumn and winter.

The exhibition opens with an Artists’ Evening on Friday 9 October 2026, when the winner of the South Downs Open, selected by the judges, will also be announced.

I am very pleased that Goodyer Meadows II will be part of the exhibition and that this small painting of a familiar Petersfield landscape will be shown in the heart of the town where it was created.
