Rose Autumn MA is a professional artist and experienced Fine Art tutor working in Petersfield, East Hampshire, in southern England.

Art School Tutorials

Rose brings art school-quality teaching to art students, amateurs, hobbyists, and professional artists through one-to-one private tutorials, either in person in Hampshire or worldwide on Zoom.  If you have artist’s block, are struggling to finish a project, or are looking to move your work forward, Rose can gently guide you onto a new path.

Private tutorials are individually tailored to you and your work.  You may be looking for regular guidance as your practice develops, or simply need a fresh and experienced eye to help you resolve a particular problem.

Rose can help you to develop ideas and projects, work through artist’s block, resolve an unsuccessful or unfinished piece of work, develop material from your sketchbooks and research, improve your drawing or painting, explore composition and materials, prepare a portfolio or body of work, return to art after a break, prepare for an exhibition, or receive an independent professional critique of your work.

Whatever stage you have reached in your practice, the tutorial provides dedicated time to look carefully at your work, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and consider where you might take it next.

About Tutorials

Rose will review your recent work, research material, and sketchbooks before discussing your work with you in depth.  She will provide constructive feedback on research methods, technique, composition, use of materials, and subject matter.

She can also advise on further research, art theory, strategies for improvement, and setting goals, as well as offering creative ideas to help you develop your projects and move your work forward.

Professional Practice

As an exhibiting artist for twenty years, Rose also offers Professional Practice Sessions to support artists who want to develop their practice, promote their work, and pursue opportunities to exhibit.

Training and Teaching Experience

With five years of Fine Art training to Master’s level in Art History, Drawing, and Oil Painting, Rose combines a deep understanding of her subject with a teacher training qualification and art school teaching experience.  Her personalised approach to learning is intended to build confidence, develop positive habits, encourage problem-solving skills, and help artists fulfil their creative potential.

Rose is a trained Tutor and Lecturer in Fine Art with a certificate in teaching adults from Chichester College.  She was formerly a visiting lecturer at the City & Guilds of London Art School, where she delivered professional practice seminars and individual tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate painting students.  She has also given lectures and demonstrations in drawing and painting to local art groups and schools.

Professional Artist

Rose achieved a First Class BA in Painting and a Distinction in MA Fine Art and was subsequently represented by Long & Ryle Gallery, London.  She has twenty years of experience as an exhibiting artist.

She was shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize and has been awarded the Drawing Prize at the National Open Art Competition, the Brian Sinfield Fine Arts Award at Pastels Today, and the Visitors’ Choice Award at the Brighton Festival Selectors’ Choice exhibition.  Her drawings were also included in Manifest International Drawing Annual IV and Drawing Room II, a survey of contemporary drawing at the Royal West of England Academy.  She was an elected Member of the Chelsea Arts Club in London.

Additional Skills

With a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Business Administration, Rose also brings considerable professional communication experience to her teaching.  She was formerly a Public Relations Manager, liaising at director level with blue-chip corporations in the financial and consumer sectors and writing press and publicity materials for national television and print media.

This experience can be particularly valuable to artists seeking support with the professional presentation, communication, and promotion of their work.
