New Painting: Goodyer Meadows II
Goodyer Meadows II, 2026

My latest painting is inspired by a view across the South Downs, a landscape that has become an increasingly important part of my painting practice. Living close to the Downs and regularly walking the same paths allows me to observe how dramatically the familiar landscape changes with the seasons, weather and light. I am increasingly interested in deciding what can be left out of the final composition, simplifying it to the essential elements.
I have become fascinated by the rapidly shifting cloud formations and the way they transform the landscape beneath them. Light moves across the hills and fields, colours change, and distant forms appear and disappear. Rather than simply recording a particular view, I am interested in capturing something of these fleeting moments through colour, shape, and paint.
